EuropeWave’s Fourth Annual Conference: Ready to Make a Splash
EuropeWave’s fourth annual conference was held on 4 November in Brussels during the Ocean Energy Europe Annual Conference (OEE2025), the largest ocean energy industry conference. The EuropeWave event brought together developers, funders, and sector experts eager to accelerate the journey toward commercial wave energy deployment.
Event Highlights
Spotlight on Phase 3 Projects
The event opened with an in-depth presentation on the progress of EuropeWave’s Phase 3 projects. Each project shared updates on its latest achievements, including experiences from its subsystem testing programmes conducted in preparation for upcoming open-water deployments. The lessons learned in these programmes are vital in reducing technological risk and strengthening the pathway toward open-sea demonstration.

Strategic Visions: Looking Beyond EuropeWave
A dynamic panel discussion invited the projects to share their long-term strategies as they look beyond the EuropeWave programme. Each project outlined the commercial markets they are targeting and the innovation opportunities within their systems. They also reflected on the types of support and engagement that would be most valuable after the conclusion of EuropeWave to help sustain and accelerate their development journey.
Horizon Europe: New Funding on the Horizon
Participants also benefited from a dedicated information session from the European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation on a new Horizon Europe call that aims to further support wave energy development through a transnational Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) programme. This match-funded stage-gate programme seeks to support the next wave of research and development, helping wave energy technologies bridge the gap to market readiness.
