Significant progress continues on the development of the wave energy technology led by the Mocean project team, with major milestones achieved in power take-off testing, detailed engineering design and procurement as the project moves closer to offshore deployment.

Carnegie Clean Energy has advanced the assembly of its CETO wave energy device, bringing the grid-connected demonstration project a step closer to offshore deployment.  The ACHIEVE CETO unit is to be deployed at Spain's BiMEP, one of Europe's leading open-sea test facilities for marine renewable energy.

IDOM has successfully completed the deployment of its modified MARMOK-A-5 device, a prototype floating wave energy converter (WEC) designed to harness sustainable renewable energy from ocean waves. The device will feature a newly commissioned power take-off (PTO) system developed by IDOM, incorporating all the experience and lessons learned from previous testing campaigns.

The EuropeWave side event was successfully held during the OEE 2025 conference on 5 Nov 2025, sharing the wave energy projects news during the Phase 3 of EuropeWave’s PCP funding programme.

IDOM has successfully completed the commissioning of a novel Power Take-Off (PTO) system, which is now set to undergo an extensive testing campaign at the Mutriku wave power plant. Over the next six weeks, the air turbine will be tested to validate its performance and reliability in real-world conditions, with the goal of de-risking its future offshore deployment.

Mocean’s Blue Horizon Project: Design Advancements and EMEC Berth Secured

The ACHIEVE team is focused on the procurement and manufacture of the ACHIEVE CETO wave energy prototype in advance of deployment at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP).

Mocean Energy has successfully completed the detailed design of its 250kW Blue Horizon wave energy converter during Phase 3, moving closer to its deployment at EMEC in 2025.

During Phase 3, CETO Wave Energy Ireland (CWEI) undertook various activities to ensure their deployment at BiMEP is on track next year.

In the third phase of the EuropeWave PCP programme, IDOM focused on the detailed design of their prototype optimised for installation at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in Spain.

Mocean Energy has successfully completed the front-end-engineering-design (FEED) of its 250kW Blue Horizon wave energy converter during Phase 2, reaching a technology readiness level (TRL) 5 (1-9 TRL scale).

In the second phase of the EuropeWave PCP programme, IDOM focused on the design of a low-power prototype optimised for installation at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in Spain.

During Phase 2, CETO Wave Energy Ireland (CWEI) undertook front-end engineering design (FEED), tank testing, PTO testing, and certification and commercialisation activities.

Throughout Phase 2, Arrecife focused on two lines of work: improving the components of the technology and conducting determinant laboratory tests. The technology advancement involved mooring lines as well as electrical and control systems.

AMOG successfully completed Phase 2 of the EuropeWave Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) Programme, for its Sea-Saw Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technology.

EuropeWave was delighted to participate in the Energy Fair, a networking platform allowing EUSEW participants to interact with exhibitors. Our Brussels team took this opportunity to promote ocean energy and to connect with those interested in the technologies through an interactive quiz at the exhibition stand.
