ACHIEVE

The ACHIEVE Project delivers a CETO design which integrates new innovative technologies, collaboration with experienced partners and a focus on optimising performance and cost while leveraging learnings from prior design and deployments. This provides step change improvements while retaining compelling features such as fully submerged operation, minimising visual amenity loss and offering inherent protection from breaking waves and extreme storms.

The new CETO captures nearly twice as much energy from the waves than the previously deployed design due to new features such as multi-mooring and advanced control. With 3 taught connections to the seabed, CETO captures energy from all primary degrees of freedom. Advanced control optimises for every wave and can manage CETO’s position and angle in the water column for both enhanced energy capture and survivability.

Converting the linear motion of the CETO buoy into rotational motion is a new fully electric rotary Power Take-Off (PTO). Operating like a futuristic winch, this sub-system resists the motion of the buoy and in doing so, generates clean, renewable electricity at higher efficiencies than ever before.
